Job Description for KIC Children and Youth Worker

The KIC Children and Youth Worker (CYW) is a part time role working 20 (Twenty) hours per week (as per contract). It is recognized that the working hours need to be flexible to accommodate the diverse nature of the responsibilities. The responsibility is on the CYW to ensure the work is completed effectively.

The role is ideally suited to a member of the International community already residing in Uganda as there is a requirement to understand the unique needs of International young people.. Applications from Ugandan Nationals who meet this criteria are also welcome.

The CYW will be accountable to the Ministry Coordinator as Line Manager and with secondary accountability to the HLT Treasurer for matters dealing with finance.

The role is split into 3 main areas of work. These are outlined below with indicators of what falls within these areas.

The CYW will ensure the KIC Child Protection Policy is adhered to across all areas of church ministry involving young people under the age of 18.

Regular Youth/Childrens Activities :

Responsible for:

  • Planning weekly groups for the 11 - 14 and 15 - 18 age groups.We would expect the CYW to run at least one of these sessions weekly. Where these groups overlap ensure there are adequate adult leaders to run these groups
  • Recruiting and overseeing volunteer leaders for all groups
  • Researching relevant materials for teaching and activities
  • Meeting at least once a month with the youth leaders to plan and pray
  • Communication with youth leaders, parents, youth and HLT to ensure everyone is informed of all activities taking place
  • Arranging venues and materials for groups.
  • Planning and facilitating regular camps for each age group.

Junior Church:

Responsible for:

  • Oversight of all JC groups to ensure Sunday morning is smooth running and well staffed
  • Recruiting, training and leading the volunteer JC team
  • Finding suitable teaching resources that will give the children a strong biblical grounding while being fun and relevant to them.
  • Liaising with the Ministry Coordinator to ensure the Sunday Church Calendar runs smoothly.
  • Planning and facilitating youth led services, pageants and occasional JC parties through the year along with the JC volunteer team.

Young Adults:

Responsible for:

  • Planning regular meetings for the Young Adults group alongside the existing volunteer team.
  • Planning and facilitating camps plus other occasional functions for this age group.
  • Assisting to find relevant teaching materials for bible study and discussion.

KIC are looking for someone with the following skills, gifting and qualities to work with our young people:

  • Passion for children/youth ministry and a proven track record in this area.
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills
  • Able to work unsupervised and achieve goals set
  • Very flexible in working hours. Especially willing to work evenings, weekends and over holidays such as Christmas and Easter.
  • A heart for reaching out to young people outside of KIC.
  • Adaptable and non judgemental in approach when dealing with kids from an International School background. Confident in handling lively discussion and allowing wide ranging views of the young people to be voiced.
  • The candidate must subscribe to the vision, values and statement of faith of KIC.
